Lebanon is home to biggest number of insurers in the region

LEBANON – Lebanon has the highest number of insurance companies – 50 companies – in the Middle East and North Africa, according to data compiled by the Al Bayan publication.
Lebanon is followed by Egypt, which has 36 insurers, and Saudi Arabia has 34. The data are shown in Al Bayan’s annual report entitled “Insurance, Reinsurance and Intermediaries in MENA 2017”, which lists 379 insurance entities by volume of premiums.
Qatar Insurance topped the list of insurance companies regionally in terms of insurance premiums written.
These stood at $2.62 billion in 2017 for the insurer, followed by The Company for Cooperative Insurance (Tawuniya) with $2.24 billion and Bupa Arabia with $2.06 billion. Both the latter insurers are in Saudi Arabia. Qatar Insurance also headed the list in terms of total assets that amounted to $9.54 billion.
